School board votes to hire nurse, bus aide

The Cleburne County school board on Monday voted unanimously to hire Vanessa Whaley as a licensed practical nurse and school bus aide at Cleburne County High School effective Oct. 23.

The board also unanimously approved:

— David Gilmore as  the Alabama Association of School Boards District 6 nominee for Cleburne County.

— The purchase of paper products from the state bid list.

— The renewal line of credit with Metro Bank in the amount of $2 million with Superintendent Chad Young and Melissa Lumpkin as the approved signees.

— Program applications for fiscal year 2018 for individuals covered by disability education act; also applications for pre-school, and for participation in Title I and Title II funding. (Title I money goes to schools enrolling lots of low-income children and Title II money goes toward improving the quality of teachers and principals.)

— A five-year capital plan which includes maintenance/upkeep for school buildings.

— Field trips for the various schools in the system.

Young recognized board members Donya Beam and Tracy McMahan for earning Alabama Association of School Board certificate of achievement in the AASB school board member academy for 2016-17.

The next board meeting will be at Pleasant Grove Elementary on Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.
