Cleburne County deputies shot a man Friday morning after he threatened them with multiple firearms, officials said.

Investigator Bryan Tumlin said Friday that the shooting happened around 4 a.m. near the intersection of county roads 49 and 92 in the Borden Springs area.

“It looks like he had some mental health issues,” Tumlin said.

The man was flown from the scene to a Georgia hospital, Tumlin said. Tumlin declined to name him.

The investigator declined to say what circumstances led up to the deputies’ interaction with the man.

“We want to be as upfront about this as possible, but there are a lot of things we’re still learning,” Tumlin said.

Tumlin also declined to say how many deputies were involved in the shooting. None of the deputies were injured, the investigator said.

Oxford police and the Center for Applied Forensics are investigating the case, Tumlin said.
